Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder

Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). There are 3 types of ADHD which are characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity. ADHD can inhibit how individuals function at school, with others, or at work. ADHD appears prior to age 12 and is usually seen between the ages of 3 to 6.

Depressive Mood Dysregulation

DMDD is a disorder seen in children and adolescents that is marked by persistent irritability, anger mood most of the day, severe temper outbursts (verbal or behavioral) that are disproportionate to situation and reactions are worse than same aged peers, and difficulty function due to moodiness in more than one place such as school, home, around peers.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is characterized by intrusive and repetitive thoughts or images that are unwanted or repetitive behaviors that make the individual feel compelled to do so. OCD symptoms such as compulsions, obsessions, or both can restrict parts of a person’s work, relationships, and school.

Depression

Depression is often characterized by feeling of sadness, low mood, irritability, loss of interest or pleasure in usual activities, feeling of guilt or worthlessness, fatigue, changes in appetite. When these are constant and affecting quality of life it may need to be treated.

Anxiety

Anxiety can occur when there are feelings of unease, nervousness, irritability, overwhelming sense of worry, apprehension to new settings or people. Anxiety can affect daily function such as school, work, or relationships. Anxiety can manifest in physical symptoms such as shortness of breath, trembling, heart racing, feelings of impending doom.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

ASD is a developmental disorder that affects behavior and communication. Severity and specific behaviors can vary in each individual. There is difficulty with social relatedness and interactions with others, and repetitive behaviors or restricted interests. ASD can be diagnosed at any age, but symptoms are usually noticed in early childhood. Social impairment can affect relationships, school and work.

Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a chronic disorder that is characterized by persistent hallucinations or delusions. This condition affects on a individual thinks, acts, and feels. Symptoms typically begin around the ages of 16 to 30.

Bipolar Disorder

There are 4 types of bipolar disorders and they range between severe mood swings that can go between elation, depression, and remission and reoccurrence of these. Bipolar disorders cause shifts in mood, activity levels, energy, and capability to complete daily tasks. Moods can range from feelings sadness, excessively happiness, or having energized behavior.

Dementia

Dementia is a progressive cognitive impairment which affects social and occupational functioning. There are 4 types of dementias which are based on their causes. Dementia not only affect the individuals but their care takers.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

PTSD occurs after a traumatic event in which the person believes that they are in physical danger, that their life is in jeopardy, or after witnessing life threatening or violent event. Diagnosis occurs when the person reacts to traumatic event with fear or has symptoms of avoidance or hyperarousal. 30.

Sleep Disorders

There are several types of sleep disorders. Signs of a sleep disorder can include daytime sleepiness or drowsiness, having trouble falling asleep, feeling uncomfortable when falling asleep and after falling asleep having excessive movements, and irregular breathing.

Borderline Personality

Borderline personality disorder presents with varying in self image, behavior, or mood (anger, anxiety, and depression). The individual can be impulsive (changes in values and interests),have difficulty in social relationships, show signs of self harming habits, or difficulty trusting others. Changes in mood can last from hours to days.
